chapter 13
Summary
In this chapter Ulysses awoke on Calypso's island. Calypso is a titan, she is daughter of Atlas and is very beautiful. Calypso tells Ulysses that he is not aloud to go home and that Ogygia, Calypso's island, is where Ulysses lives now. Calypso saved Ulysses from dying when he was floating and that is how she got him to her home. Finally Ulysses is able to talk to Calypso, and she shows him her wood that can show you anybody and what is happening to them. Ulysses sees his wife and son and really wants to go back to see them for real in Ithaca. Calypso will not let him leave, but Ulysses finds out that all of Calypso's old husband are now animals. He finds a crow and talks to him and the crow tells him that he was a spy before Calypso turned him to a crow. Ulysses sends him to Ithaca to see what is happening in his castle. When the crow returns and Ulysses finds that his wife and son are in danger he says a prayer to the gods to help him get home to Ithaca. The gods hear this apology and call a meeting which unfortunately Poseidon could not attend. Behind Poseidon's back they decide to help Ulysses get home to Ithaca. They talk to Calypso and tell her to let Ulysses leave and to help him get to Ithaca safely.
